Deform growing and taking on new employees
Deform continues to do well; order intakes during 2005 and 2006 have set new records. In response
to this increased demand, there has been heavy investment in both new production equipment and the
improvement of premises. Nonetheless, the key to our success is the expertise of our workforce. A
number of people have been added to this over the past year. Urban Ljungberg became production manager
last spring. His background is in design and maintenance. The production management team also includes
Patrik Molin (quality manager) and Asmo Leppänen (work management and logistics). Still on the
white-collar side, Magnus Westerberg was another spring appointment. He works in design and metallurgy.
On the blue-collar side, ten people have been taken on over the past year. We now also require an
automatic welding machine operator. This person will play an important
role in the start-up of our latest investment, a 3-metre welding boom for submerged arc welding.
2005-11-04. Deform AB
increasing investment in hot
formed, quenched
and tempered plates
Since 2002, Deform has been investing in increased sales of hot formed, quenched
and tempered plates. Forming quenched and tempered plates is very difficult.
Make a single error, and the risk of crack formation and/or distortion is very great.
The company’s investments are now paying dividends. On both the home and export
markets, new customers have been won. One large order has been taken where the end product is
protective plating for a Swedish truck. The truck’s cab is
protected from external attack, i.e. mines and the fire of various weapons.
Deform’s role is the forming of 4 critical plates for each cab. The end customer is
the rescue services agency of a European country.
Deform has many other assignments under way and has noticed that the market
for protection-related items is growing. Consequently the need for quenched and
tempered protective plate is also increasing.
The success of our investments means that we are now expanding and looking for
both production and office staff.
2004-06-03. New owners to Deform AB
Deform AB has been acquired by Mats Bergsjö (1/3), Bengt Christensson (1/3) and Egon Ottersten (1/3). Bengt Christensson and Egon Ottersten are employed at Deform AB as Managing Director respectively Financial Director. Mats Bergsjö will be the Chairman of the Board. All three of them have long industrial experience and share a strong belief in the future possibilities of Deform.
The business idea of Deform will be unchanged and core focus will be advanced hot- and cold forming. The ambition will be to increase in the field of stainless and quenched&tempered steel.
The turn over is approximately 30 MSEK with 30 employees. Half of the turn over goes on direct export and Deform is competitive in a nisch that enables sales to different countries worldwide.
The company was founded 1907 as a part of the steel work in Degerfors – former “Degerfors Jernverk” now Outokumpu Stainless. Since 1987 Deform has changes owners a couple of times but the loyal, highly skilled work force remains. The number of employees is not effected by the change.
2003-04-28. New export manager at Deform
Mr Conny Lundstedt is our new export manager since the 28:th of April 2003. Mr Lundstedt will work parallell with Mr Hans-Jürgen Thiede as a start, in purpose to get used with his new duty. Mr Thiede will act as Mr Lundstedt's coach/mentor, as well as having responsibilities in various special projects within formed and quenched products.
Mr Lundstedt has 15 years of experience in sales to various industries inside and outside the country of which 13 in sales of complicated thechnical products. He has worked as project manager, sales engineer and sales manager. As an example he has been responsible for Ingersoll-Rand's compressed air systems, designed for demandning industries. Foreign contacts and negotiations have frequently taken place in his work, and that's a skill he now has the ambition to utilise and improve further. Mr Lundstedt is a machine engineer and is happy and challenged over the opportunity to market and sell Deform's products.
2003-02-01 Deform aims for stainless steel forming
We became the independent Deform 1987 under the condition of not competing in stainless steel forming for 10 years. Now the time has passed ande we can once again see great opportunities in the field of advanced forming of stainless steel products.
Historically forming of stainless steel parts to different process industries was core business for Deform. We have long experience of all rotation symmetrical products such as shells, cones, spheres, etc. We can deliver both complete welded products and separate parts for assembling at site. Now we must recover these customers and get old market segments back.
2002-10-01. New Managing Director at Deform
Bengt Christensson has been appointed Managing Director at Deform from the 1st of October 2002. Bengt´s latest appointment was as a Divisional Director and Vice President for the Finnish group Componenta Corporation. Componenta is the leading group in Scandinavia in castings, machining and assembling of components in grey cast iron and nodular cast iron to heavy truck-, machine building-, and off road-industry.
After completed assignment where the mission was to bring Deform back to it’s core business, former Managing Director Egon Ottersten decided to step back. He will however stay in the company as the Financial Manager.
2001-08-01. Roller-bending machine strengthens our distinctive image
Deform has at last found the right object and has invested in a roller bending machine. This machine was found when Rodoverken terminated their operations in Gävle. We have been trying to acquire such a machine for some time and now it makes our forming capability more complete. In future we will be able to manufacture products that are both wider and thicker.
The machine will be operational in August 2001 and we hope for and believe there will be a high utilisation almost immediately. We look forward to receiving your inquiries!
The performance of the machine is as follows:
| Roller width |
4000 |
3000 |
2000 |
1500 |
1000 |
| Thickness mm |

2001-05-01. Changes in operations
Following a decision by the Boards of Deform and the parent company Thermia AB, Deform will in future concentrate on its core operations. The reason behind this decision is to obtain a more distinct profile for the company. We revert to the type of operations of which we have long experience, so that we can develop further in this
field.
Development is moving more towards complete constructions where the customer insists on one supplier with total responsibility for the delivery. To be able to live up to this requirement, we are working actively in a network of companies whose resources are supplementary to those of Deform. Together with subcontractors, we will be able to live up to the requirements of the customers for complete deliveries.
2001-05-01. New organisation after operational changes
In connection with the changes in operational policy, we have made considerable reductions in personnel among workers and staff. None of these reductions reduces our capability of living up to the requirements of our customers and the market. It is quite simply an adaptation to the current size of the company after the change. Now we will be able to grow from this level, assuming that developments are positive.
2001-04-01. "The roof" is now finished!
After having worked on this project since the autumn of 1999, Deform has now finished its largest order ever! Read about this enormous project
